Kat Shepherd is thrilled that her writing debut is a fast-paced series that is likely to engage reluctant readers, because as an educator, she believes that reading should be a joyful experience for every kid. A former classroom teacher, Kat has also spent various points in her life working as a deli waitress, a Hollywood script reader, and a dog trainer for film and TV. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, two dogs, and a rotating series of foster dogs. Babysitting Nightmares is her first middle grade series.
So, Kat is great. Clio’s aunt, Kawanna, met her in LA on a horror movie shoot. Kat believes us and wrote about our babysitting… um… nightmares as a fictional book series. It SHOULD be non-fiction, but most adults do not believe us. We know that you do, though. Her books are pretty close to what really happened. BUT… IT’S WEIRD.
Kat seems to know things about the Nightmare Realm that we never even told her. Like, she describes that world with way more detail than any of us gave her. She says she’s an author with an “active imagination,” but Kawanna did say that Kat seemed to disappear for a few years as a child. Hmmm… If you meet Kat Shepherd in person, ask her about it. Maybe you can help solve the mystery.
